Sawyer Made

George Sawyer is a second-generation Windsor chairmaker with a degree in Industrial Design from the Rhode Island School of Design. He teaches traditional Windsor chairmaking out of his studio in Woodbury, Vermont, and uses many of the same tools and techniques used in chairmaking 200 years ago.

Founded by George in 2015, Sawyer Made re-envisions a future for fine craftsmanship and traditional joinery in modern seating. Parts are riven directly from the log, and hand tools are used to follow the grain of the wood, ensuring that parts maintain their full strength and flexibility. Sawyer Made uses local Vermont woods and partners with foresters that prioritize the health of our working forests.

Drawing on traditional green woodworking techniques, Sawyer Made’s work has an easy timelessness rooted in the grace, functionality and the vernacular of traditional American furniture.
